6 of the best Autumn/Winter 2019 Makeup Trends: Runway to Real

Ethereal, breathtaking, and somewhat eye-catching… these are the best words to describe the Autumn/Winter 2019 make-up trends

Created to illuminate some intriguing runway garments, the Autumn/Winter 2019 make-up trends were a feast of creativity. Dominating the AW 2019 runways, we saw the rebirth of the eccentric 90s with a modern twist. Some were minimalistic, others outrageously dramatic, but numerous trends will undoubtedly end up a part of our every-day make-up looks. We’ve interpreted some of the way-out runway looks and picked the most friendly trends for you to build on for your chic new look IRL.

1. Barely there make-up

Shades of Armani ecru linen slouch suits! The early 90s were a backlash against the excesses of the 80s and the dominant colour palette was beige, greige (Angelina Jolie’s corpse-bride lips flashback, anyone?) and natural.

This autumn/winter’s interpretation holds on to the barely there/no make-up look, seen prominently on numerous Autumn/ Winter fashion week runways. Make-up artists kept it simple, using a bare minimum of foundation to enhance the models’ outer beauty without interfering with their natural skin.

You’ll find this neutral palette is also the perfect foil for the colours and textures of your ensembles in warmer tones and pretty prints.

For those less willing to face the world bare-faced, faking it with highlighters, subtle bronzing and fine-textured neutrals covers a multitude of sins. Here’s how you do it:

Natural skin is the order of the day, and a little help from these friends will give us gorgeous, radiant ‘no make-up’ skin. Our favourite foundations to get this look:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Filter Foundation

Hide any booboos and use your contouring/highlighting skills to make the most of your assets:

Conceal blemishes with Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer or Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Maybelline Master Bronze Colour and Highlighter kit is a great palette for all your eye and face shaping needs.

A neutral, soft shimmer on the eye is universally flattering and a great base if you decide you want to build on your look with the trends below. We like Bourjois Little Round Pot Eye Shadow in Ingenude and Emauvante or Bourjois Smoky Eyes Trio EyeShadow in Mordoré Chic

Lashes look luscious and natural with Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara

Keep things subtle by framing the eyes softly with Revlon’s ColorStay Brow Pencil

2.  Blushing- A Flush of Blush

Probably the most charming and youthful of the Autumn/Winter 2019 Make-up trends, a touch of coral pinky blush is the easiest way to liven up anyone’s complexion and soften the face. The use of Bourjois’ Little Round Pot Blush in Rose Frisson, paired with a peachy lipstick, lends an air of romantic innocence to this Winter make-up trend. Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in Rose Frisson.

If you’re more inclined to make a bold statement, bring on the pink (Lilas D’Or), baby! Carry it from your cheek apples along the cheekbone and even up to your temples, 80s style!

3. Lip-smacking pretty

Soft lips just a shade deeper than your natural lip colour will flatter your neutral look.

For sheer gloss: Revlon’s Irresistible Kiss Balm in Tropical Coconut or Juicy Peach or Revlon’s Kiss Plumping Lip Creme in several beautiful nude tones.

For longwearing lips: Revlon’s ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor in Faithful Fawn

For a sheer stain: Revlon’s Kiss Cushion Lip Tint in Pretty Kiss

Bourjois Rose Exclusif Gloss is a clever adaptable lip colour that changes with your skin’s own pH – what will yours be? A soft pink or plum?

Now all you need to do is accessor-eyes (wink, wink)…

4.  Morning- After Liner

Where would the 90s have been without grunge rolling in as a backlash to all that beige? Here we get a little grungey with smudged eyeliner in the waterline or under it. We like Revlon’s ColorStay Eyeliner, which blends (and smudges) while wet, then sets and stays put.

5.  Extreme Winged Black Eyeliner

The exaggerated use of eyeliner can either be applied to extreme lengths or all over the lid. Better yet, add a touch of colour (lip liner or wettened longwear eye shadow) to liven things up.  Revlon’s ColorStay Exactify Liquid Liner

6.  Voluminous Lashes… Heavy on the Mascara

The key to this heavy-weight lash look is multiple coats of bold volumising mascara. Revlon’s Mega Multiplier Mascara will give your natural eyelashes those voluminous lashes they’ve been yearning for. Try Revlon’s Mega Multiplier Mascara or Bourjois Volume Glamour Push Up Mascara

Looking good, girl!

Time for romance… Valentine beauty gets real

Love is in the air, in your eyes… and on your skin. Make a special effort to look and feel fantastic for your love object – that includes yourself…

In an ideal world, we’d show our partners care and consideration every day, but juggling life’s demands can be so hectic that couple time is often not as frequent as it should be. Use Valentine’s Day as a gentle reminder to stop and smell the delicious bouquet of roses and why not make space for romance?

Radiant face

A smooth skin is a radiant skin. Slough off old skin cells with Bioderma Sébium Pore Refiner or Noreva Exfoliac Facial Scrub.

Next, give it a drink of moisture and softness:  Try Noreva Aquareva Light or Rich or Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur SPF 30.

radiant moisturised skin

Soft, caressable skin for both of you

The skin on your body, hands and feet should feel like velvet. You don’t want to feel any roughness or snagging.

Gentle cleansing

Couple time gets even more alluring when you have smooth body skin and smooth, soft feet. In the shower, get soft and moisturised skin with Bioderma Atoderm Shower Gel, then buff it with a gentle body scrub or loofah to leave the skin clear of blemishes and rosy with health.

Close shave

Few things are more off-putting than stubble prickling your partner. Make sure you’re as smooth as baby.

For her For lasting smoothness, have your legs waxed, or DIY by shaving or using a depilatory cream. The latter lasts longer, but first do a skin-sensitivity patch test if you‘ve never done it before.

For him Please shave your face. Five o’clock shadow will give your partner’s delicate skin carpet burn. Afterwards, apply a post-shaving balm to soften your skin and beard hairs. Try Bioderma Sensibio Forte.

Moisture must

For both of you Don’t dry your skin completely when you step out of the bath or shower. If you leave it slightly damp when you apply lashings of body lotion, it will be doubly moisturised. Use a neutral body lotion (we like Bioderma Atoderm Milk), then spray your chosen fragrance in the air and walk through the mist for an overall fragrance kiss.

Show-off tips

Get pretty fingertips and tootsies with a rich, jewel shade are eye catching. Pair your signature shade with a stunning outfit or your favourite slinky negligee and you’re sure to have a great night.

Be nice to be near

The feel of your skin and the scent of your favourite fragrance can be addictive to the object of your desire, as sense of smell is directly connected to our limbic brains, the seat of our emotions so, when they smell your trademark scent, it will affect them instantly.

Application rules: Certain areas on your body are hot spots for scent. The heat they generate makes fragrance come alive and linger. Apply it behind your ears, between your breasts, on elbow creases, behind knees and on inner wrists.

Hint: if you decide to try something new, make sure you know it’s something he or she will love. On your way out the door, spritz on a fragrance to finish off the ultimate love package.

Who wants to kiss and make up?

We fall in love by gazing into each other’s faces and our brains register our mood continually with what they reveal. So you want to send the right message…

Valentine beauty foundation and blush

First contact

If you’re stepping out with your beau or besties, a glowing skin is needed for any and all occasions. Reflect your radiance from the inside out with Bourjois City Radiance Foundation. The formula contains radiance-boosting pigments to even out skin tone – all for a more natural, fresh, radiant complexion. The SPF30 allows you to take a romantic stroll on the beach, carefree! If, on the other hand, you have an oilier complexion, you’ll love Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream, which evens out skin tone as well.

Next, add a tinge of blush to soften the mood, the Bourjois Little Round Pot makes it easy to swipe on and slip it into your bag for a sneaky touch-up.

Come-hither eyes

The eyes are the most important tool of seduction – after all, how can you fall in love without eye contact? Make sure your eyes look beautifully relaxed by erasing all signs of tiredness with an instant pep-up eye cream. Try Noreva Noveane 3D Rollon Anti-ageing Eye and Lip Cream.

Make your eyes speak volumes with either of these two beauties: Bourjois’s lashious Volume Glamour Push Up Mascara or Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara.

A soft, smoky look is super easy with Bourjois Smoky Eyes Trio Eyeshadow.

Kiss-me lips

For both of you: Lips should be soft and smooth for kissing, so eliminate dry, rough skin and give them a rosy glow by brushing them gently with a wet toothbrush.

Apply a nourishing lip balm Bioderma Atoderm Restorative Lip Balm and let it soak in for a while.

Breath should be sweet, so brush and floss well and keep some Xylitol mints handy if you’re having a spicy meal.

Finally, pucker up in high definition with Bourjois’ iconic Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick, which has serious staying power and looks ultra-plush.

At the end of the night, don’t forget to take it all off with micellar water – Bioderma H2O or Noreva Universal Cleansing Lotion.

Happy Valentine!

Halloween make-up hits

Smoke it up with the Bourjois Smoky Stories Quad Eye Shadow Palette. The three colour palettes allow you to go bright and bold or dark and daring! Apply the lighter shade just under the arch to highlight the eyelids, followed by the medium shade on the lids for some intensity. Back that up with the dark shade at the roots of the lashes to underline the lashes. Lastly, apply the light touch in a solid layer as a top coat for some glitter.

Time to take it all off…

Come the witching hour, you want to be sure you’ve cleared off every last scrap of your make-up masterpiece. There’s nothing better for this than our favourite Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water.

Happy Halloween!

5 Steps to Getting that Gorgeous Glow

Want to know the secret to the #nofilter glow? We’re here to let you in on the primer, palettes and other products you’ll need to pull off the ultimate glow up!

The desire for an instant golden glow has moved from Instagram to real life. But how do you manage to create that perfect radiance only filters seem to get right? The perfect combination of products will have you ditching the lens filters for your #glowup.

First step: Surprise! It isn’t make-up – it’s you!

It seems the mystery of the glow is more than skin-deep… literally. Healthy levels of hydration unlock the unlimited potential of radiance. So sip those eight glasses of water and you’ll be one step closer to a bright future.

Glowing from within doesn’t stop there. A good moisturiser preps the skin on even the dreariest days. Top mags like Marie Claire recommend Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur SPF 30 as the answer to this step: this super-hydrating moisturiser/skin enhancer/SPF was made with all skin types in mind, boosting it to give it a luminous, rosy glow.

Step 2: Prime

Now that the inner you has been attended to, primer takes care of the surface, setting the tone for a natural, dewy skin. Rimmel Fix & Protect Primer acts as a shield against the sun with SPF 25, and lasts up to 7 hours. We also love Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser for its pore-blurring, priming and moisturising action. Primer not only creates a beautiful canvas to work from, it can also be worn alone. This saves you time in the mornings that can be spent on something more important… like hitting the snooze button a couple of dozen times.

5 Steps to Getting that Gorgeous Glow

Step 3: Find your foundation

Taking things to the next level means finding a light foundation that uplifts the skin and allows for a fresh face. Bourjois gives us their vitamin-rich, anti-fatigue Healthy Mix Foundation with radiance-boosting crystalline pigments to even out skin tone for a luminous complexion, it’s all in the name, after all.

Rimmel Match Perfection takes natural-looking skin to the next level. The smooth, weightless finish, 24-hour moisture and vitamin E, not to mention soft-focus powders that reduce imperfections… we’re sold.

5 Steps to Getting that Gorgeous Glow

Step 4: Go for bronze

The finishing touch is a golden glow. If a great bronzer can do wonders, one designed by Supermodel Kate Moss must surely do miracles. Rimmel Kate Bronzing Palette, unsurprisingly, is another slashie 😉 –  highlighter-slash-sculptor-slash-blusher in one, bringing bronze to life one touch-up at a time. Swipe on lightly for a natural day look, or be bold with a dramatic sculpted look for evenings. Who said natural had to be sun-kissed?

Not to be outshone, Maybelline Total Eye & Cheek Tint gives you a palette of eight shadows and two highlighters in golden and rosy tones for maximum look-at-me effect.

Step 5: Strobe it on

We love a strobe just as much as the next girl, and Maybelline Master Studio Strobing Stick has the perfect micro-fine pearl texture – in Light, Medium and Dark – to add a finishing touch to your cheekbones, inner corner of your eyes, lip filtrum and collar bones. Remember, though, less is definitely more.

Skin Care Gets Serious: Our Top 5 for Late Winter

September may be here, but the chilly temperatures mean your skin needs extra care. Warm up your routine with some of our favourite picks.

Skin Care on Le Beauty Club

1. CC Cream news

CC creams are your skin’s favourite slashie: moisturiser/anti-ager/SPF/colour corrector all-in-one, making it a seamless base for your daily routine or your one-stop cream if you’re in a rush. Our top pick: We love Noreva’s new IKLEN+ CC Crème Anti-Ageing & Anti-Dark Spot Unifying Day Cream (phew!), which adds yet another string to its bow: it’s the first tinted CC cream specifically formulated for skin with pigmentation issues, evening out your skin tone, for an even better day 😉 Read more about its fabulous properties by clicking here.

2. Sunscreen

‘Whaaat? It’s winter, why do I need sunscreen’, you say. Well, it’s nearly spring, and sun protection is a must – throughout the year – especially where we live. And if your sunscreen has other skin benefits, you’ve got a real winner on your hands! Our choice is the Bioderma Photoderm MAX Aquafluide SPF 50+. It offers optimal protection against the harmful effects of UV rays, protects your skin cell DNA, and its light, non-greasy texture leaves skin moisturised with a velvety dry-touch finish (tinted, too, if you prefer). It’s great for barefaced weekends.

3. Day Treatment

As work ramps up for the final big push for the year, or maybe final exams are approaching like an express train, stress hormones can give our face unwelcome visitors. We need a product that will keep skin clear without drying it out or irritating it (especially for those of us who have adult acne). We recommend Noreva Actipur Anti-imperfections Day treatment – with one application a day, it restores your skin’s equilibrium and leaves it feeling moisturised, silky, with a matte finish.

4. Coming clean

After a long day, we like to double cleanse, while still leaving our skin comfortable and hydrated. First sweep: remove eye make-up and cleanse with our favourite micellar cleansing waters – Bioderma Sensibio or Hydrabio H2O. Step 2: Use Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant Mild Foaming Gel, which clears remaining residue, soothes and cleanses, leaving skin clean and comfortable and ready for your night prep. In the morning, just wipe the night away with your favourite H2O, and you’re set.

5. Baby boon

Any baby expert will tell you that the best way to give you and your baby a good night’s sleep is through baby’s bedtime bath ritual. The bonding time, warm water, massaging action plus the drop in body temperature after the bath all make for sleepy bubs. Mustela has you covered with Gentle Cleansing Gel for hair and body, and Baby Massage Oil.
