Make-up

Halloween make-up hits

It’s that time of the year when having bags under your eyes is a good thing. Whether they’re intentional or not, make-up is the maker of great Halloween looks. These products will make you boo-tiful!

For creating artful looks, hollows, tinted skin, ombre, we just love to use:

Smoke it up with the Bourjois Smoky Stories Quad Eye Shadow Palette. The three colour palettes allow you to go bright and bold or dark and daring! Apply the lighter shade just under the arch to highlight the eyelids, followed by the medium shade on the lids for some intensity. Back that up with the dark shade at the roots of the lashes to underline the lashes. Lastly, apply the light touch in a solid layer as a top coat for some glitter.

For black hollows: Revlon ColorStay Crème Eye Shadow in licorice

For a geisha flush or fleshy tones: Rimmel Royal Blush Cream

For strobing and ethereal glows: Revlon PhotoReady Collection Highlighting Palette

Contouring and ghoulish hollows: Maybelline Master Contour Duo Shaper

Waterproof lines: Bourjois Contour Clubbing waterproof pencil has a selection of great shades. Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses gives you a great selection of pink, red, nude and purple liners.

Liquid liner is a must for whiskers and bat-winged eyes:  This Maybelline Master Ink Liquid liner comes in mesmerising metallic.

Swipe on a powerful lip to tie your Halloween costume together. If you’re going for a dark and gloomy witch, try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry. Otherwise, try Soft Silver Rose for a soft, blush tone if you’re leaning towards the angel theme.

Set your look with L’Oréal Paris Infallible Fixing Mist

Time to take it all off…

Come the witching hour, you want to be sure you’ve cleared off every last scrap of your make-up masterpiece. There’s nothing better for this than our favourite Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water.

For those with tikes, Mustela No-Rinse Cleansing Water or Mustela Very Sensitive Skin No Rinse Cleansing Water works a charm to turn your little monsters back into clean-faced angels.

Happy Halloween!

5 Steps to Getting that Gorgeous Glow

Want to know the secret to the #nofilter glow? We’re here to let you in on the primer, palettes and other products you’ll need to pull off the ultimate glow up!

The desire for an instant golden glow has moved from Instagram to real life. But how do you manage to create that perfect radiance only filters seem to get right? The perfect combination of products will have you ditching the lens filters for your #glowup.

First step: Surprise! It isn’t make-up – it’s you!

It seems the mystery of the glow is more than skin-deep… literally. Healthy levels of hydration unlock the unlimited potential of radiance. So sip those eight glasses of water and you’ll be one step closer to a bright future.

Glowing from within doesn’t stop there. A good moisturiser preps the skin on even the dreariest days. Top mags like Marie Claire recommend Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur SPF 30 as the answer to this step: this super-hydrating moisturiser/skin enhancer/SPF was made with all skin types in mind, boosting it to give it a luminous, rosy glow.

Step 2: Prime

Now that the inner you has been attended to, primer takes care of the surface, setting the tone for a natural, dewy skin. Rimmel Fix & Protect Primer acts as a shield against the sun with SPF 25, and lasts up to 7 hours. We also love Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser for its pore-blurring, priming and moisturising action. Primer not only creates a beautiful canvas to work from, it can also be worn alone. This saves you time in the mornings that can be spent on something more important… like hitting the snooze button a couple of dozen times.

Step 3: Find your foundation

Taking things to the next level means finding a light foundation that uplifts the skin and allows for a fresh face. Bourjois gives us their vitamin-rich, anti-fatigue Healthy Mix Foundation with radiance-boosting crystalline pigments to even out skin tone for a luminous complexion, it’s all in the name, after all.

Rimmel Match Perfection takes natural-looking skin to the next level. The smooth, weightless finish, 24-hour moisture and vitamin E, not to mention soft-focus powders that reduce imperfections… we’re sold.

Step 4: Go for bronze

The finishing touch is a golden glow. If a great bronzer can do wonders, one designed by Supermodel Kate Moss must surely do miracles. Rimmel Kate Bronzing Palette, unsurprisingly, is another slashie 😉 –  highlighter-slash-sculptor-slash-blusher in one, bringing bronze to life one touch-up at a time. Swipe on lightly for a natural day look, or be bold with a dramatic sculpted look for evenings. Who said natural had to be sun-kissed?

Not to be outshone, Maybelline Total Eye & Cheek Tint gives you a palette of eight shadows and two highlighters in golden and rosy tones for maximum look-at-me effect.

Step 5: Strobe it on

We love a strobe just as much as the next girl, and Maybelline Master Studio Strobing Stick has the perfect micro-fine pearl texture – in Light, Medium and Dark – to add a finishing touch to your cheekbones, inner corner of your eyes, lip filtrum and collar bones. Remember, though, less is definitely more.

Skin Care Gets Serious: Our Top 5 for Late Winter

September may be here, but the chilly temperatures mean your skin needs extra care. Warm up your routine with some of our favourite picks.

Skin Care on Le Beauty Club

1. CC Cream news

CC creams are your skin’s favourite slashie: moisturiser/anti-ager/SPF/colour corrector all-in-one, making it a seamless base for your daily routine or your one-stop cream if you’re in a rush. Our top pick: We love Noreva’s new IKLEN+ CC Crème Anti-Ageing & Anti-Dark Spot Unifying Day Cream (phew!), which adds yet another string to its bow: it’s the first tinted CC cream specifically formulated for skin with pigmentation issues, evening out your skin tone, for an even better day 😉 Read more about its fabulous properties by clicking here.

2. Sunscreen

‘Whaaat? It’s winter, why do I need sunscreen’, you say. Well, it’s nearly spring, and sun protection is a must – throughout the year – especially where we live. And if your sunscreen has other skin benefits, you’ve got a real winner on your hands! Our choice is the Bioderma Photoderm MAX Aquafluide SPF 50+. It offers optimal protection against the harmful effects of UV rays, protects your skin cell DNA, and its light, non-greasy texture leaves skin moisturised with a velvety dry-touch finish (tinted, too, if you prefer). It’s great for barefaced weekends.

3. Day Treatment

As work ramps up for the final big push for the year, or maybe final exams are approaching like an express train, stress hormones can give our face unwelcome visitors. We need a product that will keep skin clear without drying it out or irritating it (especially for those of us who have adult acne). We recommend Noreva Actipur Anti-imperfections Day treatment – with one application a day, it restores your skin’s equilibrium and leaves it feeling moisturised, silky, with a matte finish.

4. Coming clean

After a long day, we like to double cleanse, while still leaving our skin comfortable and hydrated. First sweep: remove eye make-up and cleanse with our favourite micellar cleansing waters – Bioderma Sensibio or Hydrabio H2O. Step 2: Use Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant Mild Foaming Gel, which clears remaining residue, soothes and cleanses, leaving skin clean and comfortable and ready for your night prep. In the morning, just wipe the night away with your favourite H2O, and you’re set.

5. Baby boon

Any baby expert will tell you that the best way to give you and your baby a good night’s sleep is through baby’s bedtime bath ritual. The bonding time, warm water, massaging action plus the drop in body temperature after the bath all make for sleepy bubs. Mustela has you covered with Gentle Cleansing Gel for hair and body, and Baby Massage Oil.
